Key qualities and character: healing, stimulating, restorative, centering, strengthening and invigorating. Traditional uses and folklore: ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans considered it a symbol of regeneration, the Moors a deterrent to pests; the Europeans burned it as incense and used it as a fumigant in sick rooms; rosemary was one of the ingredients of Marseilles vinegar, used by thieves to protect themselves from plague; used medicinally to strengthen the nerves and memory and for a wide range of complaints of the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems, as well as muscular pain and scalp disorders; extensively used soaps, colognes, cosmetics and in food and drinks both as flavoring and preservative. Skin care: astringent and stimulating; especially useful on dry, mature and sluggish skin; good for skin eruptions, scalp problems, microbial and insect damage, and issues exacerbated by poor circulation; the aromatic hydrosol was a major ingredient of Hungary water (circa 1370) which was used to cleanse and rejuvenate the skin. Precautions: do not use if pregnant, epileptic, in the presence of high blood pressure, or on small children; usually non-irritating in dilution. Ingredients: aromatic hydrosol of Rosemary from France, essential oils of certified organic Rosemary from Portugal (borneol/camphor type) and South Africa (verbenone type) and wild from Tunisia (1.8 cineol type), coconut emulsifier and grapefruit seed extract.
